My secret to the perfect Gyudon, Japan's beloved beef bowl, with this easy-to-follow recipe of tender beef, simmered in a sweet and savory sauce, served over fluffy rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack Hotpot Sliced Beef ~ 1 pound
  • 2 Onion whole, sliced
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Mirin
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 cups Dashi Stock/Beef stock/ chicken stock
  • Eggs
  • Green Onion chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  • In a pan, add soy sauce, mirin, sugar & dashi stock.
  • Add in the onion and turn the heat up to medium-high. Ensure every slice of onion is soaked in the sauce and let it simmer for 3-5 minutes or until the onion is soft and translucent.
  • Once the onion is translucent, add in the beef and make sure the meat is soaked in the sauce. Put the lid on and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes or until the meat is fully cooked.
  • Optional, however, HIGHLY recommended, poach an egg.
  • Serve on top of a bowl of hot rice and garnish with green onion.
