5 Minute, 4 Ingredient Fried Rice with kai dong Sauces
It’s episode 2 of kai dong Plus Two, where I make tasty dishes using only kai dong products, plus 2 extra ingredients. Today, we’re making this super easy, 4-ingredient Garlic Fried Rice, using Four Season Scallion Sauce and Everyday Garlic Oil.
This fully vegan simple fried rice is super fragrant, packed with the aroma of scallions, garlic, and shallots. It’s an amazing base for any meal: breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack. I love enjoying it with a fried egg on top for a quick breakfast. Or, if I have a really busy day, this fried rice is the easiest rice base for satisfying, filling lunch boxes for Dom and I.

Garlic Fried Rice Ingredients
The ingredients for garlic fried rice are super simple. Here’s everything you need:
- 4 cups cold cooked rice
- 3 stalks green onion chopped (separate white and green parts)
- 2.5 tbsp Four Season Scallion Sauce
- 3 tbsp Everyday Garlic Oil
- Optional – salt and pepper to taste

Best Rice For Garlic Fried Rice
Of course, the most important thing for Garlic Fried Rice is the rice. I usually use white rice, specifically SEKKA Sushi Rice, for my fried rice. You can use any type of rice you’d prefer. But, make sure you’re using COLD cooked rice.
I always make extra, so I can store the leftover rice to make fried rice later. Once the cooked rice has cooled down, I store around two portions each in a resealable freezer bag, either overnight in the fridge or for longer in the freezer. I flatten the bag so the rice will be easier to break apart once I’m ready to cook.

Extra Garlic Flavors with Everyday Garlic Oil
Everyday Garlic Oil from kai dong is what gives this fried rice recipe its signature garlicky flavor that’s rich, fragrant, and already perfectly balanced. It’s a great shortcut for adding some complex, slow-cooked aromatics flavor without spending any time. Instead of using fresh garlic, you get a deeper garlic flavor along with an extra hint of shallots. The oil is already seasoned with salt and a touch of sugar, which soaks into each rice grains and brings balance to the dish. Plus, this garlic fried rice is completely vegan and gluten-free!

How To Make Garlic Fried Rice
- Heat a large pan over medium-high heat. Add a bit of neutral oil if needed, then sauté the white parts of the green onion for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Add in the cold cooked rice and break it apart in the pan.
- Stir in the green parts of the green onion, salt and pepper (optional), four-season scallion sauce, and everyday garlic oil.
- Turn the heat to high and sauté for another 3–4 minutes, tossing everything together until the rice is golden and slightly crispy in spots.
- Serve it hot, top it with a fried egg, or pair it with your favorite protein.

Garlic Fried Rice FAQ
Yes, you can use brown rice for this recipe. Just like you would with white rice, make sure to use cold overnight rice.
My favorite is short grain sushi rice (SEKKA BRAND).
Yes. I love using fried rice as a fridge cleaning dish. I suggest vegetables that are easy to chop up and doesn’t get soggy when cooked, like carrots, cabbage, onions, peas, and corn.
What to Enjoy With Your Garlic Fried Rice
Garlic fried rice is especially good with saucy, flavorful mains that need something to catch all that richness. Spicy Pork, Sweet and Sour Mushrooms, or anything with a savory-sweet sauce works well because the rice soaks up the sauce without getting soggy.
It also pairs beautifully with crispy or seared dishes that bring contrast in texture. A golden fried egg, pan-roasted salmon, or crunchy pork cutlet gives you those crispy edges that works so well with a bite of soft, garlicky rice.
