Welcome to Day 10 of my first series – Cooking Dinner for 21 Days! Today I am making one of the easiest but tastiest Asian soups out there, HOT & SOUR SOUP. There are honestly so many variations of making hot and sour soup, but this is my version, and it takes less than 15 minutes to complete. As a child ordering this at buffets, I always thought it was such a complicated soup to make, but it turns out, trust me, it is SO EASY, and I promise this will taste better than any Asian Buffet.
I am cooking it with chicken stock and pork today, but vegetarian people feel free to use vegetable stock and skip the pork. You can also add other ingredients such as wood ear, dried shiitake mushroom, enoki mushroom, and much more! This is your hot and sour soup, and there is no one way to make it.

Ingredients
2 pieces of Pork Butt cut into thin slices (1/2 cup)
1 tbsp Soy Sauce
1 tsp of Corn Starch
–
6 Shiitake Mushroom (sliced)
1/2 Carrot (cut into thin pieces)
1 pack of Tofu (cut into thin strips)
1/2 cup of Sliced Bamboo Shoots
2 Eggs (beaten)
–
2 tbsp of Soy Sauce
2 tbsp of Black Vinegar (https://amzn.to/33FENni) ONLY BRAND I SWEAR BY
2 tsp of White Pepper (or more if you like it spicy)
1 tsp of Sugar
–
4 cups of Chicken Stock/Vegetable Stock
2 tbsp of Corn Starch mixed w/ cold water
- Marinate the pork with soy sauce and corn starch and set it aside for 10 minutes.
- Turn the heat to medium-high and add in the chicken stock and all the vegetables. Once the soup starts boiling, add in the seasoning mixture of soy sauce, black vinegar, white pepper, and sugar, let this cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Next, add in the pork and cook for 2-3 minutes; the pork should be cut into skinny slices to cook fast. Next, gently add in the tofu. Let this all simmer for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, pour in a mixture of corn starch and cold water to thicken the soup and finish off by drizzling egg in a circular motion. Let the egg sit for 20 seconds to “set” and then mix around.
- Garnish with cilantro and add extra white pepper on the side if you want an extra kick!
ENJOY!!
