You can find Beef Shacha Fried Rice at many street vendors in Taiwan. I will give you a warning if you never tried or smelled shacha before; it is STRONG.
I remember my first time smelling satay for the first time in grade one; I was so overwhelmed by the spices I couldn’t even stay in the restaurants. However, some of the most “pungent” smelling foods are the best and most flavourful foods out there! After giving it a try, I am now obsessed, and it is one of my favorite condiments to have with beef.
My favorite brand of Shacha sauce and the ONLY brand that I use is the one from Bull Head.
You can find it at most Asian Supermarkets, and I also linked it on my website. Shacha sauce is the perfect condiment for hot pot and stirfries as it compliments beef well. Shacha is known as the “Chinese BBQ Sauce” in western culture and is packed with a range of spices and dried seafood, giving it is umami and savory flavors.
The key to perfect fried rice is using COLD, DAY OLD Rice. Please don’t use fresh rice as it will turn mushy.
Before frying, I like to break the rice apart with my hands; that way, it cuts down the cooking time, and each grain will get coated in the sauce. For those that are lazy, order take out rice for $1 and fry up Taiwanese Beef Shacha Fried Rice the next day!
