Welcome to DAY 2 of the Lunar New Year Series, and today we will be making Pork and Chives Dumplings, which brings you WEALTH in the New Year!
Dumplings are a traditional lucky dish that symbolizes wealth since it resembles ancient gold ingots. In my culture, the more dumplings you eat during Lunar New Year, the more money you make in the new year! Not only are dumplings good luck, but these juicy, delicious Pork and Chive Dumplings are also the best dumplings you will EVER try!
Wrapping dumpling is a tradition that my family does every year. My Pork and Chives Dumplings is a secret recipe passed down from my great-grandma, and now I am passing our traditions to you!
These dumplings are flavourful, juicy, and seasoned to perfection! My grandma taught me a secret tip to ensure that you like the seasoning, take 1 tbsp of the filling and microwave it for 30 seconds, and give it a try. Since dumplings are boiled in water, it is always better to have them a little bit saltier, so it has more flavor when cooked.
My mom and I will love drinking wine or sake while wrapping dumplings and chatting. We always wrap extra every year and let all of our guests bring them home. Since this year, we cannot gather with all of our friends and family, we wrapped extra and delivered them to all our family so we can all enjoy dumplings on Lunar New Year together. I highly recommend making my Pork and Chives Dumplings as a virtual date with your friends! Prepare the ingredients ahead of time and set up a date to wrap away!
Suppose you are a vegetarian, don’t worry! Use scrambled eggs and vermicelli noodles instead, and I promise it will be just as delicious!
I included the instructions for vegetarian friends on my printable recipe so you can enjoy dumplings on Lunar New Year as well.
These Pork and Chives dumplings can last in the freezer for up to 3 months. First, to store these in the freezer, freeze the dumplings making sure they are not stuck together on parchment paperwork for 2 hours. Once the dumplings harden, you can add them into ziplock bags. Make sure not to add the dumplings into the bags until it is fully frozen, so they don’t stick together.
