The BEST Pork and Chives Dumplings

Pork and Chives Dumplings

Welcome to DAY 2 of the Lunar New Year Series, and today we will be making Pork and Chives Dumplings, which brings you WEALTH in the New Year!

Dumplings are a traditional lucky dish that symbolizes wealth since it resembles ancient gold ingots. In my culture, the more dumplings you eat during Lunar New Year, the more money you make in the new year! Not only are dumplings good luck, but these juicy, delicious Pork and Chive Dumplings are also the best dumplings you will EVER try!

Chives Dumplings

Wrapping dumpling is a tradition that my family does every year. My Pork and Chives Dumplings is a secret recipe passed down from my great-grandma, and now I am passing our traditions to you!

These dumplings are flavourful, juicy, and seasoned to perfection! My grandma taught me a secret tip to ensure that you like the seasoning, take 1 tbsp of the filling and microwave it for 30 seconds, and give it a try. Since dumplings are boiled in water, it is always better to have them a little bit saltier, so it has more flavor when cooked.

How to Wrap Dumplings

My mom and I will love drinking wine or sake while wrapping dumplings and chatting. We always wrap extra every year and let all of our guests bring them home. Since this year, we cannot gather with all of our friends and family, we wrapped extra and delivered them to all our family so we can all enjoy dumplings on Lunar New Year together. I highly recommend making my Pork and Chives Dumplings as a virtual date with your friends! Prepare the ingredients ahead of time and set up a date to wrap away!

Pork and Chives Dumplings

Suppose you are a vegetarian, don’t worry! Use scrambled eggs and vermicelli noodles instead, and I promise it will be just as delicious!

I included the instructions for vegetarian friends on my printable recipe so you can enjoy dumplings on Lunar New Year as well.

Chives Dumplings

These Pork and Chives dumplings can last in the freezer for up to 3 months. First, to store these in the freezer, freeze the dumplings making sure they are not stuck together on parchment paperwork for 2 hours. Once the dumplings harden, you can add them into ziplock bags. Make sure not to add the dumplings into the bags until it is fully frozen, so they don’t stick together.

Pork Dumplings

Ingredients

1 lb of Chives (Chopped)

2 tbsp of Sesame Oil

1.5 lb Ground Pork or Chicken

2 tbsp of Oyster Sauce

2 tbsp of Soy Sauce

1 tbsp of Ginger

1 tsp of Salt

1 tsp of Chicken Powder

1 tsp of White Pepper

50 Dumpling Wrappers

Dipping Sauce:

Black Vinegar

Homemade Chili Oil

Sesame Seeds

Vegetarian Alternative:

7 Eggs (scrambled)

Vegetarian Oyster Sauce

1 tsp of Mushroom Powder

Wrapping Dumplings
  1. In a bowl, add in chopped chives and pour in 2 tbsp of Sesame Oil and mix well.
  2. Add in ground pork, oyster sauce, soy sauce, grated ginger, salt, chicken powder, and white pepper. PRO TIP: Taste 1 tsp of the filling by microwaving it for 30 seconds to see if you need any more additional seasoning.
  3. Take one piece of wrapper and add in 1 tbsp of the filling in the middle. Add water to the edges. Fold the wrapper in half, and using the palm of your hand, squeeze the wrapping together on each side while pushing the filling down, forming a ball. Make sure that all the edges are tightly sealed.
  4. Boil a pot of water. Once the water is boiling, add in the dumplings. Once the dumplings float, cook for another 2 minutes.

VEGETARIAN: In a bowl, whisk together all the eggs. Pan-fry the eggs with 1 tbsp of oil and scramble them apart (cottage cheese consistency). Follow the above instructions but replace pork with scrambled eggs.

BEST Crispy Taiwanese Potstickers (Secret Family Recipe)

About Me
Hi! I am Tiffy and I am a HUGE foodie. I love to cook, I love to eat, and I love sharing what I love with the world.
I was born in Taiwan, a country with some of the best street food in the world. When I think back to my childhood, I remember all the fantastic restaurants my dad brought me to when I was young. You see, my family is also huge foodies; we use to wander around night markets every weekend, skip the last period in class to try out new restaurants, and every summer, we would travel around Taiwan exploring all the new “must try” dishes around the country.
