Taiwanese Black Pepper Steak Sauce (Nightmarket Style!)

Taiwanese Black Pepper Steak Sauce (Nightmarket Style!)

Not being dramatic at all, this Black Pepper Steak Sauce will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

Savory, buttery, addicting, and delicious Taiwanese Black Pepper Steak, just like the ones you find at night markets. You would be surprised how easy and quick it is to make Black Pepper Steak sauce with only a few simple ingredients that you already have at home. What is a better way to start the weekend than a big sizzle plate for Taiwanese Black Pepper Steak?

Taiwanese Black Pepper Steak Sauce

Growing up, my dad used to take me to the night market in Taiwan at least twice a week.

He would always let me choose what I wanted to eat, and black pepper steak was a dish that I could never say no to. You can smell the sizzling hot plate coming from miles away; there is something satisfying eating on a hot plate of steak in a crowded night market. Since leaving Taiwan, I’ve yet to find a place that replicates my childhood highlight until now.

Pepper Lunch at home

After a few trials and errors, I am excited to share my EASY, QUICK and delicious Taiwanese Black Pepper Steak, the perfect balance between savory, sweet, slightly tangy, and super buttery.

All you need is shallots, garlic, butter, Worcestershire sauce, oyster sauce, ketchup, sugar, and black pepper! I never thought I would be able to taste flavors so close to home, miles away.

STEAK SAUCE

In Taiwan, you can have Black Pepper Steak with rice or noodles. I am using rice today since that is what I have in hand, but you can also use pasta noodles with a fried egg on the side.

I was also craving Pepper Lunch today, so here is my hybrid version of Taiwanese Black Pepper Steak and Japanese Pepper Lunch. Any beef cut will work, but make sure to cut it into thin slices to cook quickly and not become tough. You can also use my Black Pepper Steak sauce to just pour over grilled steak or use it as a stir-fry sauce; the choices are endless!

Pepper Lunch

I am missing home (Taiwan) extra hard this summer, so I will for sure be having a night market series where I can also share other recipes such as Taiwanese garlic mushroom steak sauce, bubble tea, savory tangyuan, and more!

Let me know what you are craving, and I cannot wait to recreate all these recipes so we can all have a taste of Taiwan at home.

Hey Tiff, should I use regular worcesthershire sauce or the japanese bulldog version?
    Thanks!

About Me
Hi! I am Tiffy and I am a HUGE foodie. I love to cook, I love to eat, and I love sharing what I love with the world.
I was born in Taiwan, a country with some of the best street food in the world. When I think back to my childhood, I remember all the fantastic restaurants my dad brought me to when I was young. You see, my family is also huge foodies; we use to wander around night markets every weekend, skip the last period in class to try out new restaurants, and every summer, we would travel around Taiwan exploring all the new “must try” dishes around the country.
