Weekend Birthday Whistler Snowmobile Staycation
Come with us on a Weekend Birthday Whistler Snowmobile Staycation! It’s Dom’s birthday today, so I wanted to surprise him with a Whistler Snowmobile Tour! We took a scenic 2 hour drive to Whistler, and spent our day exploring the area, adventuring around the mountains on a snowmobile, and enjoying the food at our hotel. How To Get To Whistler
Today, we’re heading from Vancouver to Whistler by driving. You can get to Whistler from Vancouver or Seattle via the Sea to Sky Highway. Like its name states, this drive has the incredible scenery from the Pacific coastlines up to the mountains.
The drive is about 2 hours, and you may need snow chains as you get closer to Whistler. If you don’t feel like driving yourself, there’s plenty of shuttle services that goes between Vancouver Airport and Whistler.
Our Whistler Snowmobile Staycation Itinerary
Today is officially Dom’s birthday and we’re actually heading out to Whistler for a mini staycation. We love Whistler! It’s where we got engaged, and where we got married. It’s such a special place for us and today is so so beautiful out. So, I have a few mini surprise activities planned for today, starting with a snowmobile tour!
Fairmont Chateau Whistler
We just checked into our room for the night at Fairmont Chateau Whistler. For this special occasion, we had to book the hotel we went to for our wedding, since it’s such a sentimental place for us. The hotel is a beautiful castle with the perfect view of the mountains. Right as we enter, they had birthday cake and chocolates ready for us in our room and made us feel so welcomed!
Our favorite part might be their complementary snack bar at the lounge, which was unfortunately not available during COVID while we were having our wedding. Before heading out for our activity, we had to fill up on some of these delicious snacks.
They actually continuously update the food at the lounge, so every time we came back to the hotel, they had a new spread ready. We even ended our night with a nice hot chocolate from their evening dessert spread!
Blackcomb Snowmobile 10/10
Now, it’s off to our main event for the day – snowmobiles! We’ve booked a tour with Blackcomb Snowmobile, which offers snowmobile tours for all skill levels starting from $210 CAD. Luckily, today there’s only three people in our group, so it’s almost like a private lesson.
It’s my first time on a snowmobile, so I’m actually a little nervous. But, it turned out to be so fun! The instructors stay with you at all times, and goes at a good enough pace for you to catchup but not be too close to each other. The route take you along multiple viewpoints on the mountains, and they were all absolutely breathtaking.
We took a quick apple cider and warm cookie break at the top of the mountain in their Crystal Hut. This little dome cabin had comfy beanbags and couches with a beautiful window view of the mountains. It was a well-paced adventure that really got us the best views of Whistler. If you’re looking to do a snowmobile tour, you can book ahead online. Whistler Olympic Plaza
After our exciting adventures on the mountains, we took a chill walk from our hotel to Whistler Olympic Plaza. This park was made for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games medal ceremony. Today, it’s a great central area to hang out, enjoy the weather, and have some coffee. Depending on the season, they also have concerts and outdoor ice skating rinks. If you’re visiting with kids, it also has giant playground and large open space.
% Arabica
To get my matcha fix for the day, we headed to % Arabica. This minimalist coffee shop is actually a super popular international coffee shop chain from Japan, serving coffee drinks with in-house roasted beans. The inside of the cafe looks almost like an igloo! We grabbed an iced latte and an iced matcha latte, and we continued our walk.
Located in Whistler Village, it’s a fairly convenient spot for quality coffee. Their drinks range from $4.50 to $7.50 CAD. They’re open everyday from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. If you’re in Whistler Village, consider grabbing some coffee here!
Room Service
We ended our activity-packed day with a night in with room service at our hotel. Fairmont Chateau’s room service menu is absolutely delicious! We’ve been adventuring and walking all day, so we were ready to eat! We ordered the Mountain Cheese Burger, a veggie-packed spaghettini, with artichoke, olives, and red peppers in a super rich tomato sauce, and a plate of chicken fingers with fries. It’s the perfect way to end this weekend staycation.
