Celebrating Healthier Habits on Birthday Week
Lately I’ve been obsessed with chia seed pudding granola bowls for breakfast using this Homemade Chocolate Peanut Butter granola. After coming back from Hawaii and finishing that yummy granola from Island Vintage Cafe, I simply needed more.
Since I have all the ingredients, I’ve decided to make this chocolate chip granola with a maple peanut butter base. Creating granola bowls with this oven-toasted oat mix makes me so excited to wake up in the morning! It saves me so much time, and really help elevate each bowl!
Homemade Granola Ingredients
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 1 cup peanut butter, melted
- 2 cups oats
- ¼ cup flax seeds
- ¼ cup sunflower seeds
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups rice puffs
- ½ cup Chocolate Chips

Oats & Rice: The Perfect Granola Base
This yummy granola starts with the perfect base: oats and rice puffs. The mild, nutty oats give that hearty, chewy texture. They stick together from the maple syrup and peanut butter, creating those delicious little clumps. But oats and peanut butter by itself can be a little dense, so the rice puffs adds a super airy crispiness.
The oats in this recipe is extra crunchy after spreading it out on a baking sheet and toasting. The heat of the oven removes all the extra moisture, leaving only crunchy, caramelized toasted grains.

Maple Peanut Butter
I love the peanut butter and maple syrup combination, because the maple peanut butter caramelizes in the oven, almost giving it a light, crunchy crust. The peanut butter adds an extra boost of creaminess and proteins. The maple syrup is also high in antioxidants, and makes a much healthier sweetener than just sugar.
I melted the peanut butter first, so it’s much easier to mix into the oat mix. Whether it’s over creamy yogurt, fluffy chia seed pudding, or even ice cream, this granola will give that rich maple peanut butter flavor to anything you add it to.

Customize Your Own Granola
I absolutely recommend trying this base recipe as is, but it’s a great recipe to get creative with. For today’s recipe, we are adding sunflower seeds, flax seeds, and chocolate chips. Seeds and nuts like sunflower and flax provides extra healthy benefits that fuels your body, like omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants while tasting delicious. I also added chocolate chips, because healthy eating is about fueling your body with foods you love.
