Cooking A 14 Course Meal For My Family
Dom’s grandma is actually visiting from Taiwan right now, and I really want to host everyone for dinner. In total, we have 15 people, so I decided to make a 14 course meal. To pair with my Taiwanese Cold Plate Appetizer of seaweed, egg, and tofu, I made this Taiwanese Garlic Sesame Dipping Sauce. This savory, garlic-packed sauce is a staple in Taiwan, and I wanted to bring a reminder of home for everyone. It’s so simple to whip up, and goes great with everything.
Taiwanese Garlic Sesame Dipping Sauce Ingredients
- 2-3 tbsp of Roasted Sesame Seed
- 2 tbsp Vegetarian Oyster Sauce
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 2 tsp Everyday Garlic Oil

Sesame
For this recipe, we’re doubling up on the sesame with both roasted sesame seeds and sesame oil. Combined with the more neutral taste of tofu, meat, or whatever else you dip it in, the sesame in this sauce adds an extra fun layer of fatty flavor. The roasted ground sesame seeds give the sauce a bit of a grittier texture that releases more flavors as you chew. The oil adds even more intensity to the roasted seeds, filling your mouth with that sesame aroma.

kai dong Everyday Garlic Oil
To get that iconic garlic flavor, we are using the kai dong Everyday Garlic Oil today. This sauce is made with Taiwanese garlic and shallots, giving it that extra kick that you can’t get with just fresh garlic. It has a mellow garlic flavor, and just the right touch of sweet. It’s an easy way to get all that garlic flavor without having to peel a bunch of garlic. Besides using this for sauces, I love just simply drizzling it onto a plate of blanched veggies.
