If you’re heading to Japan, here’s my must-buy kitchen, home, and stationary from my Japan Muji Haul! Japan’s Muji is not only cheaper, but also has some amazing Japan-only items you’ll love! I know whenever I’m traveling, I can get a little overwhelmed looking at different products in a different language. So, here’s a quick shopping guide to some of the must buys from Japan Muji’s different categories!
Shopping In Muji (And My Full Haul!)
Every time I’m in Japan, I have to take an empty suitcase for all the extra shopping. I’ve showed you my pharmacy haul from Osaka, but there’s still a ton of other must-buy brands in Japan. The first store that I want to mention is one of my favorite brands in Japan: Muji. It is a global lifestyle brand known for their minimal branding and quality items. Their products are actually so much affordable when you grab it in Japan compared to anywhere else in the world!
They also have quite a few Japan-only products as well that are definitely must-gets. Pro Tip: One of the best ways to shop at Muji when you’re in Japan is to look at items where they have limited quantities per person, because those are definitely their best sellers!

Muji Must Buy Items
Kitchen
I know they are not very exciting, but the kitchen items in Muji is absolutely amazing. They’re durable, and made with quality material at reasonable prices. By the way, all these stainless steel kitchen bowls and utensils can go in the dishwasher, which is super convenient! In addition, they have tons of practical and well-designed cleaning products that really makes kitchen clean-up a lot easier!
Urethane Kitchen Sponges
First things first, I want to talk about their Urethane Kitchen Sponges. These are Dom’s favorite sponges. They have three different layers, which makes it a lot easier for you to clean. But, it’s also very safe for your pots and pans.
Each package comes with three sponges, so it’s actually such an amazing deal. The way it’s formed also allows you to make tons of bubbles, which makes it a lot easier to clean. It helps us save a lot on dish soap as well.
Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl
I love my mixing bowls, especially the ones that are stainless steel. Their stainless steel is such amazing quality, very easy to take care of and doesn’t scratch up easily. They are a lot easier to clean, and have measuring on the inside. I think they are going to be very, very convenient when we’re making recipes.
I got two different sizes. I also have the larger one that’s actually in Taiwan right now. My mom’s going to help me bring it back. I highly recommend these!
Frying Pan Mesh Tray Duo
Another stainless steel kitchen item that I have is their frying pan and tray duo. So, I’ve bought these already the last time I was in Japan, and I really like them. Once again, I think they’re really easy to clean and super durable. They’re an amazing size! I use them every time I fry something.
Cutlery
I love their stainless steel items, so I also got some cutlery as well. They have a range of forks, spoons, and knives in different sizes. You can pick an choose your set!
Peeler
Their vegetable peeler is so famous and viral in Asia. It literally can peel everything. It is so amazing, super durable, and dishwasher safe. Highly recommend picking one up when you are in Japan or near a Muji!
Measuring Spoon
I also got their measuring spoons. These ones are also stainless steel, so it’s really easy to clean. The spoons also have a measuring line in the middle, as well. I bought two different sizes, a 15 ml as well as a 5 ml.
Lunchbox Salad Holders
Next, I got these lunchbox salad holders, which I’m so excited for. These were 690 yen, which means they’re less than $5 each. That’s an amazing price! On the top of the lid, they also have a separate sauce compartment, which is going to be perfect. You can pour the sauce in when you’re ready to eat.
Because summer is just around the corner. I want to do more salad as well as meal prep recipes. So, I’m very excited to create recipes with these!
Filtered Water Bottles
I also grabbed one of their filtered water bottles. This one was also less than $3 per bottle. I had their viral matcha water bottles before, but they were so tiny. I needed a bigger bottle. They have a filter on the top so that way when you’re drinking it, the fruit doesn’t get in the way.
These bottles will be really good for making some fruit infused water for the summer. So, I’m very excited to also film some summer water recipes for you guys.
Water Bottle Drying Stick
I don’t know if anyone is going to agree with me, but it’s so annoying when you wash water bottles and they take so long to dry. When we saw this Water Bottle Drying Stick here, we were so excited to pick it up.
Instead of drying your water bottle upside down, which takes normally seven hours, you put the stick in your bottle. It will sit upright and actually can suck up the water in less than 3 hours. So, we got two of these. I’m very excited to test if they do work!
Plant-Based Cooking Oil Solidifier
Speaking of cleaning in the kitchen, I’ve been wanting to grab these plant-based cooking oil solidifiers for so long. Each pack is 299 yen each, and comes with five uses. When you’re deep frying, it’s so annoying to throw away the oil and have it become a huge mess. With this solidified, you just pour it in the oil, and it actually solidifies. Then, you just pick it up and throw it away. It makes it a lot easier to clean. So, I grabbed a few. This would be very convenient on days when I’m doing massive hosting and big batches of deep frying.
Kitchen Bathroom Cleaning Sheets
Their kitchen and bathroom cleaning sheets is one of those items with a limited quantity per person. These ones, I heard, are really, really good for wiping down your stove as well as stainless steel items without scratching them up. I haven’t used it yet, but I’m very excited. I saw a lot of local people stocking up on this during their Muji week sale. It is 299 yen each and it has 30 different sheets.
Multipurpose Silicone Bands
Another item that has been going viral in Asia are these multi-purpose silicone bands. So, they actually have two different ends so you’re able to wrap things up a lot easier. But what’s really cool about this is they are freezer friendly as well as boiling friendly. I saw a lot of people in Japan wrapping their vegetables up, and blanching them with these multi-purpose wraps, Or storing frozen food in the fridge with them. So I thought these were really cool!
Cotton Work Apron
I also grabbed two of their Cotton Plain Weave Work Aprons in two different colors. These are the ones that you can just slip on instead of tie around your neck. I think that makes it easier without having to worry about your apron falling off.
Linen Pot Holder and mat
I also picked up a Linen Pot Holder and mat. This one’s cool because it has a little extra sheet sown on right here on the back. So, you can also use it as little mittens to grab your pot. It’s so handy!
Frying Pan
One of my favorite items that I picked up from Muji this time is this frying pan. I have a Muji pot in Taiwan, and I love that it’s so durable. So, I end up picking up this 24 cm pan. The edges of the pan are a little bit higher. I find that it helps prevent splatter. And, this will be the perfect portion size for two people.
Household Items
I love Muji’s household items, from cleaners to storage containers. They’re designed to be minimal, easily stored, and save space in small apartments. I had to pick up a few viral must-buys I’ve seen online to test out as well!
Garbage Bags
Okay, I know this is a weird item to stock up on. I saw a YouTuber who lives in Japan and she says one of her favorite items from Muji is their compostable garbage bags. So, I figure I’ll pick some up and try them out. They have three different sizes, small, medium, and large. I picked up the medium as well as the large ones.
Room Fragrance Spray
One item that has been flying off the shelf and is their sleeping blend room fragrance spray. It is basically an essential oil-based spray. You spray this onto your pillow, bed, and around the room to create a relaxing environment.
I know people in Taiwan normally go and stock up in bulk on this. They actually have a rule that you can only buy 10 maximum per person. It is almost always sold out. It smells absolutely amazing, but I do think a little goes a long way. So, I think one or two bottles is more than enough. I put some of these into smaller bottles and it was really convenient while traveling in a hotel!
Carpet Cleaner
Next up, we have a carpet cleaner. Think of this as a massive lint roller, but a lot stronger. It’s meant to roll up debris carpets as well as thicker blankets. We do have two fur babies, so we have a lot of hair on our sofa all the time.
You can sit it upwards, and it’s pretty small and compact. So, it’s easy to store on the side of the sofa where no one can see it. I also love that they do sell refills for 90 pieces on the side at 99 yen each, so we stocked up on the refills, too.
Laundry Nets
Next, we also have some laundry nets that we got from Muji. These ones are actually a circular shape to allow more water to flow through without ruining the shapes of thicker clothes. The circular shape allows more water to kind of come through. They were 390 yen each, which is less than $2. So, we grabbed two different sizes to try. I’m not sure if it’s going to make a big difference. I’ll let you guys know!
Cat-safe Pet Deodorizer Spray
Another item that I picked up was this pet deodorizer spray. So, this remove the smells as well as cleans up any bacteria that is on any surface. It is so popular because it is made from 100% natural ingredients and is actually safe for cats. This was actually really hard to find. We went to four or five different Muji locations until we found it. So, if you do see it, grab it right away!
Packing Cubes
One thing that I got from Japan that I put to use right away are these packing cubes. They have a few different sizes here.I used them to pack this time coming back from Japan, and they are so so amazing. They have 2 layers, one with mesh for gym or dirty clothes or seeing things at a glance. They fit so much clothes!
I love how easy it is to store them. When you’re done with it, you just fold it back and it turns back into one of these small cubes!
Incense Holder
An item that I’m very excited to test out is this lay and burn incense holder from Muji. What’s really cool about this incense holder is that it’s a lay down designs. So, you light the incense and lay it down horizontally. As it burns, the ashes fall down, so it makes it a lot easier to clean. They have 12 custom scents of incense dedicated for this size. They all smell absolutely amazing!
This item was also another top selling item. I believe you’re only able to get five incense holders per person because people are stocking up.
Stationary
I am a huge Muji stationery fan. In fact, I have all their pens, their agenda, their notebooks. If I could, I would carry their whole stationary section back. But, I’ve picked a few must-buys you have to pick up when you’re in Japan. If you’re a stationary lover, you can’t miss these items!
Selectable Pocket Organizer Case
The Japan exclusive that I couldn’t find anywhere else is their Selectable Pocket A5 Organizer Case. I love that these are so compact, but don’t look bulky at all, even if you stock it up. On top of that, they are cushioned, so you can store more delicate items inside. When you open it up, you also have so many mesh divider, pouches, and organizers to store all the pens, stickers, and other tools. Lastly, they also have a hanging handle, so you can bring it your office or on-the-go
The best part is, you’re able to customize each organizer case with other options you can clip right in: individual dividers, paper organizers, mesh bags, and more!
Reusable Moisture Absorber
So, right here we have a reusable moisture absorber. I think this one is going to be really convenient to put into your closet or your sweaty shoes. They also come with holes on the top so you can actually hang it inside your closet with your clothes!
Organizer Bag
Last, but not least is their bigger organizer bags. They have so many different types of organizer bags in Muji, and I think all of them are also perfect. I think it really just depends on what you’re looking for. This one right here may look really small, but it can actually store so many items. My mom actually picked one up when she was in Japan and I saw her using it throughout the trip and I was like, I need one.
Instant Foods
If you didn’t know, Muji actually has their own instant foods! They have everything from candies to freeze-dried soup. They’re actually known to be pretty tasty, super convenient, with a ton of variety. And, there are definitely flavors that you can only find in Japan! They all travel well in a should
Instant Tea Cold Brew
I actually love the powdered instant tea from Muji so much and I highly recommend especially their cold brew tea versions. This time around, I only picked up my favorite, which is their black soybean powder tea. This one you can enjoy hot or cold. You just pour into your water bottle, shake it, and that’s it.
