Make 7-11 Snacks At Home: Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes
Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes is one of my favorite healthy snacks, so let’s make it together! One of the most iconic snacks in Taiwan are the Convenience Store Grilled Sweet Potatoes that greet you with its delicious smell right as you walk in. Using an air fryer, I’ve figured out a mess-free, hands off way of enjoying the same caramelized slow-grilled sweet potato flavors right at home!

Grilled Sweet Potatoes: Iconic Convenience Store Snack
Growing up, every time I walked into a 7-Eleven or any other convenience store in Taiwan, I was greeted with a delicious smell of roasted sweet potatoes. Their special grilling machines have a layer of heated pebbles for the sweet potatoes to slowly grill on. In Taiwan, they’re a popular choice as breakfast or a snack anytime.
These Grilled Sweet Potatoes are seriously the most comforting, healthy, and super delicious snack. It’s packed with so much fiber! I love eating these sweet potatoes with some homemade miso butter. I’ve missed that creamy, caramelized bite for so long, I’ve decided to recreate it at home with NO EXTRA INGREDIENTS – just your air fryer and an ice water bath!

Making Perfectly Caramelized Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes
When I first started trying to make this grilled sweet potato at home, my sweet potatoes NEVER CAME OUT RIGHT. They were dry, flaky, and not caramelized. They were also super hard to peel! Or, they would come out only half cooked and hard in the middle.
The key to preventing all of this? A simple ICE BATH! This shocks the sweet potato, separating the skin from the flesh and making it easier to peel later. Soaking the sweet potatoes also helps with caramelizing the sugars from the potatoes, while keeping the insides super moist.

Wow, this recipe looks absolutely delicious! The flavors sound so vibrant and well-balanced. I can’t wait to try making it myself and share it with friends and family. Thanks for sharing such a fantastic recipe!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.
After trying a convenience store sweet potato for the first time in South Korea a few months ago, I’ve been trying so hard to recreate it at home but none of the other recipes I tried came even close but you NAILED the flavor and the texture! With the first bite I was immediately transported back to Dobongsan summit where I first enjoyed this snack after a long arduous hike. I love how the peel comes away from the candy sweet flesh like its own natural wrapper. And the miso butter was such a great way to level it up! Thank you thank you !!
Wow, this was so good! The sweet potato comes out cooked every time, and I love the caramelization on the outside. I know chestnuts are a popular Korean snack in the winter. Could you make a blog/video on how to cook them perfectly?
I’ve made this every week since I found this blog post last month! SO delicious even my baby loves it.
Hi! How long do you leave the sweet potatoes in the ice water?
Hi Kat, you can leave it for 5-10 minutes, as long as the sweet potatoes are cooled down before your second round of air frying.

Hello! How might you store this and reheat it for eating later? I don’t think I could eat 8 at a time :). But I don’t want it to go soggy or anything if I put it in the fridge?
Hello! how might you store this and then reheat it for eating later? I can’t eat 8 at a time 🙂 but I don’t want it to go mushy because I stored it in the fridge…. also reheat in microwave?
Hi Annie! To store without getting soggy, first let it get to room temperature completely. Then, put in an airtight container in the fridge. You can line it with paper towels if you’re worried about moisture. That should keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days. Or, you can freeze it by wrapping them individually in foil and then storing them all in a freezer bag.
To reheat, toss them back in the air fryer for 3–5 minutes at 375°F (190°C).
