Yuzu Sesame Cherry Tomato: Easy Breakfast Side Dish
This Yuzu Sesame Cherry Tomato Salad is one of my 3 side dishes for my Japanese Miso-Marinated Salmon brunch I’ve super excited to have. I’ve been dreaming about it since prepping the salmon! This tomato salad is incredibly healthy, made with a classic Japanese flavor: yuzu sesame. It’s tart, aromatic, and super super yummy.
This Cherry Tomato Salad is one of three easy cold side dishes that are so easy to meal prep at the beginning of the week. It’s a great way use up some fresh ingredients that I have in the fridge, while still keeping meals yummy and nutritious. If you always have a few go-to simple staple prepared ahead of time, you’ll never have to ask “what should I make?” This tomato cold dish not only stores really beautifully in the fridge, it is also very quick to put together in 10 minutes if you’re someone who doesn’t love eating pre-made food.
Cherry Tomato Salad Ingredients
- 1.5 tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 cups cherry tomatoes halved
- 1.5-2 tbsp kai dong Yuzu Sesame Dressing
- 2 tsp furikake seasoning
- chopped green onion garnish

Fresh Sesame Yuzu Dressing
Yuzu sesame is a super popular Japanese flavor for a refreshing salad or cold dish. Our recipe only uses 3 ingredients: fresh ground sesame seeds, kai dong Yuzu Sesame Dressing, and furikake seasoning. Sesame seeds are rich in healthy fats for heart health, high in calcium and magnesium to support your bones, and packed with antioxidants. Grinding them fresh releases their oils, doubling the aroma in your salad.
This sauce also uses that yummy yuzu sesame dressing, which is my new absolute favorite sauce from kai dong. It’s super convenient and refreshing! It’s a quick way to add a savory-bright yuzu flavor into any dish. Finally, sprinkle in some Japanese furikake seasoning, which adds some extra umami-packed add-ins, like seaweed, bonito flakes, and more.

Cherry Tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes are small, but mighty for your health. Their bright red color means they’re super high in lycopene, an antioxidant which helps with reducing inflammation. Just a 100-gram serving of cherry tomatoes also provides roughly a quarter to a third of your daily Vitamin C needs.
They taste deliciously sweet and tart, perfect for that citrusy yuzu flavor with the aromatic sesame. I love cutting cherry tomatoes in half when making salads, because the sauces will absorb much better. It also makes them much easier to pick up with forks or chopsticks.
