Classic 7-11 Taiwan Snacks and Drinks You Have To Try

Taiwan’s convenience stores sell so many things, I wanted to show you a couple of classic Taiwan snacks, noodles, desserts and drinks that even my parents loved growing up. Some of these have been classic for over 50 years! Be sure to try these delicious snacks and drinks if you’re ever in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Convenience Stores

I don’t know if you noticed, but Taiwan takes their convenience stores very seriously. There are over 6,000 7-Eleven locations across Taiwan, and that’s just one of many. It’s literally everywhere, in every corner, and open 24/7. You can buy everything from beverages to ready to eat meals to household essentials…but that’s not all. Here in Taiwan’s 7-Eleven, you can also pay your bills, receive and send packages, and even buy concert tickets! Convenience stores in Asia are the real MVPs.

Taiwan Convenience Store Food For 24 Hours

To show you how many different types of food you can get at a cheap price Taiwanese convenience stores, I spent a whole day eating only convenience store foods! Trust me, in a full day, I haven’t even scratched the surface on all the fun treats you can find!

I put together a whole breakfast in 7-11 for under $5, and i got so many things!

Chips

Chips and snacks in Taiwan can be made into all sorts of textures and shapes, and are all equally as good. You’ll never be able to imagine all the fun flavors they come up with in Taiwan: creamy lobster, barbecue, salted egg, basil clams, and so many more flavors. Before you get overwhelmed, here’s a couple of classic Taiwan snacks to get you started.

Kuai Kuai Corn Snacks 乖乖玉米脆條

Kuai Kuai Corn Snacks 乖乖玉米脆條 are flavored puff corn snacks most Taiwanese people have loved since they were kids. First introduced with a savory 5 spice flavor and a sweet coconut flavor, Kuai Kuai has expanded to tons of other creative flavors. But, the original flavors remain the most popular.

Because the name is means “well behaved” in Chinese, Kuai Kuai Corn Snacks are popular for another reason as well: keeping electronics in line. Engineers in Taiwan will place a bag of this corn puff on their electronics or equipment as a superstition in order to make them behave. In Taiwan, you’ll see this everywhere in an office, even on the Kai Dong head office printer!

Koloko Pea Crackers 可樂果

Koloko Pea Crackers 可樂果 is a super popular Taiwanese snack made of peas. These pea crackers are made in a little swirl then fried, making them super crunchy. The original flavor is an addicting savory-garlicky flavor that goes incredibly well with Taiwan Beer. It’s simple, yet impossible to stop.

This is the original flavor we have here today, but they also release tons of seasonal flavors in convenience stores all the time, so try all the interesting limited edition flavors too!

Science Noodles 科學麵

Science Noodles 科學麵 are for sure my weakness. They are crunchy, pre-cooked instant noodle that you can eat as is or cooked. This is the perfect size for a purse snack, especially when I was on road trips in Taiwan. You also see these a lot at hot pot restaurants as instant noodles.

These Science Noodles are very convenient, really affordable, and super easy to find in Taiwan. The original flavor is still the most popular, but they have 2-3 other flavors you can try. They’re less than 25 cents each bag, and if you buy them in bulk they’re around 10-15 cents per bag. They’re definitely my favorites!

Oyster Omelet Chips 波的多蚵仔煎洋芋片

Although this is actually a more modern chip, the Oyster Omelet Chips 波的多蚵仔煎洋芋片 are such an iconic Taiwanese flavor that it’s become an instant classic. These are paper-thin, making them super super crispy like wafers. These chips have a deep oyster flavor that ends with a sweetness just like the sauce that oyster omelets often come with. It’s so shocking to have such a realistic flavor on your tongue.

Desserts

Taiwanese convenience stores are fully stocked with all sorts of desserts. From ice cream to cakes, you can find a ton of desserts that are both affordable and delicious. I shared some of my other favorite 7-11 desserts, but 2 of them are also definitely Taiwan snack classics. Every time I visit Taiwan, I buy tons of these desserts!

Uni-President Egg Pudding 統一布丁

Uni-President Egg Pudding 統一布丁 is my favorite, and Taiwan’s favorite childhood treat since 1979. It’s a silky smooth custard pudding with the consistency of jello. On the bottom, there’s a thick layer of rich caramel gel. The custard has a thick egg flavor, but is nicely balanced by the slightly bitter caramel. It’s bouncy, buttery, and the perfect amount for an easy dessert.

This pudding dessert is not just popular with kids, but also with adults who grew up eating it. You can find it in every convenience store in Taiwan. At just $0.90, it’s a bargain for such a delightful treat.

I Mei Mini Cream Puffs 義美小泡芙

These I Mei Mini Cream Puffs義美小泡芙are my favorite childhood snack of all times. I bring my favorite milk flavor and strawberry flavor back to Vancouver all the time, They also have coffee and chocolate flavors. These bite-sized cream puffs are filled with flavored cream on the inside. These milk puffs are on the flakier side, and crumble as you bite into them.

There are so many ways to eat these milk puff snacks! If you heat them up in the toaster or microwave, the cream gets a little melty and toasty. You can also freeze them, and they come out like ice cream!

Drinks

Taiwanese Convenience Stores sell every kind of drinks you can imagine. There’s coffees, teas, juices, soda, and alcohol to choose from. There’s even convenience store mixed drink combos you can find online so you can buy all the individual ingredients and mix together yourself. Here’s a few classic drinks that we always like to grab every trip to 7-11.

Taiwan Beer 台灣啤酒

Taiwan Beer 台灣啤酒 has been THE beer brand in Taiwan for over 120 years. You’ll see a wide range of flavors and varieties in all convenience stores in Taiwan. The classic white and green can is, of course, the one we love. It’s smooth, and not too bitter. Brewed with barley malt, hops, and Taiwanese rice, it has a slight sweetness as you drink. There’s something about Taiwan Beer that just feels like everyday life in Taiwan—simple, reliable, and a little nostalgic.

C&C Sparkling LEMON 黑松C&C氣泡飲

Heysong C&C Lemon 黑松C&C氣泡飲 is a fizzy lemon soda with added vitamin C that we drank a lot growing up. It’s a nice and sour way to cool down in the Taiwan heat. They come in 4 different flavors: lemon, apple, grape, and yogurt, but we love the lemon flavor best.

Honestly, it’s the kind of drink you just get hooked on without even thinking about it. It’s fizzy, fruity, and has a little kick of vitamin C, so the sourness wakes you up a little. The flavors are light, refreshing, and perfect in the hot Taiwan days. If you like bubbly drinks that aren’t overly sweet, this is right up your alley.

Instant Noodles

One of the most well-loved Taiwan snack has to be instant noodles. In fact, Taiwanese convenience store often have one aisle full of just instant noodles. There’s so many flavors , you probably can try one a day. In the sea of creative noodle flavors, here’s a few that are absolute classic Taiwanese Instant Noodles you have to try in Taiwan that even my parents love.

Imperial Meal Beef Noodle Soup 滿漢大餐

This Imperial Meal Beef Noodle Soup 滿漢大餐 is the BEST beef instant noodles you can find in Taiwan. Why? Because it’s the only one that has REAL MEAT. I’ve eaten this for most my life, and I’m still shocked that they have real chunks of meat in them. The noodles are wide, chewy, and soaks up the thick beef broth well. The chunks of beef are actually pretty tender.

I got the Super Hot Pot Beef Flavor, but there’s tons of other “beef noodle flavors” to choose from. Who knew there’s so many variations to beef noodle soup!? The Super Hot Pot flavor is so spicy, and has the fragrant flavors of Sichuan peppercorn.

Taiwan’s got a TON of instant noodles. Still, nothing beats the beef noodle soup. I’m so glad I can get this literally anywhere in Taiwan. It’s a huge bowl, so it’s definitely a full meal. It’s so satisfying to be slurping a huge bowl of well-seasoned beef noodles in a 7-11.

Lai Yi Ke Instant Noodles 來一客

Taiwan has tons of different instant noodles, but the OG Taiwanese cup-sized instant noodles is Lai Yi Ke 來一客. These noodle cups are menat to be just enough for a snack. They come in many flavors from kimchi to beef, and are available in all Taiwanese convenience stores and supermarkets. Everyone’s got their own favorite flavor!

I always stock up on their seafood flavor, the most popular AND my personal favorite. The sizing is perfect for a late night snack, or a quick pick-me-up between meetings.

Wei Lih Men Instant Noodles 維力炸醬麵

Wei Lih Men Instant Noodles 維力炸醬麵 is probably the oldest instant noodles in Taiwan. In one noodle pack, you get a full meal of fermented bean paste dried noodles with a soup. You first make the noodles with hot water, then pour the hot water into a separate bowl to make the soup. It’s a great deal for a huge bowl.

This noodle is my dad’s ALL TIME favorite instant noodles. You can actually buy a jar of the sauce on its own, but it’s just not the same as making it from a pack or a bowl. These are available in every convenience store, there’s no way you’ll miss them!
