Baking Cheesy Garlic Bread For My 6 Course Meal
This easy, delicious Cheesy Garlic Bread recipe was actually inspired from my home cafe experience last month for 22 guests. I loved the texture of my cinnamon bun’s dough, but I wanted something savory for my Christmas Eve feast.
I just couldn’t stop thinking about turning my fluffy cinnamon bun recipe into something savory, cheesy, and packed with garlic. So, for Christmas, we tried a garlic bread stuffed with chunks of cheese using a similar overnight dough. The super fluffy overnight dough turned out to be a perfect base for both recipes!
Stuffed Garlic Bread Ingredients
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- ½ cup warm water
- 1.5 tsp dry yeast
- 2 eggs Whisked
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
- Cheese of Choice Cubed
- 1 egg whisked, for egg wash
Garlic Butter
- ½ Cup Butter
- 2 tablespoon Garlic
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- ¼ Cup Chopped Parsley

Mozzarella Filling
The best part of this garlic bread is obviously the gooey, melty cheese that gives you that epic cheese pull. For the filling, make sure to choose a creamy cheese that melts well. Today I’m using chunks of Mozzarella as my filling for the garlic bread, because I love the way it melts, and for its fresh milky flavor. You can choose cheddar for its sharpness, or provolone if you like a smokier flavor. If I have it, I’ll sometimes mix in some parmesan for even more umami cheesy flavor.

4 Ingredient Homemade Garlic Butter
As these golden brown buns are baking, I quickly whipped up my garlic butter on the stove top so it’s ready to serve. Made with only 4 ingredients: garlic, butter, salt, and parsley, this herby butter really is the cherry on top for this dinner roll. It’s great on top of everything too, from potatoes to lobster. Brush on this garlic butter right after the buns finish baking, and you’ll have the richest, cheesiest garlic bread ready to serve.

How To Bake Cheesy Garlic Bread
- Combine flour, yeast, egg, salt, and butter in your stand mixing bowl
- Using a stand mixer with a bread hook, mix on low until dough is formed.
- Remove the dough and form it into a ball shape, set back in bowl and cover to rest for 1 hour.
- After the dough has doubled in size, remove from bowl and cut into 12 evenly sized pieces.
- Take one piece and gently flatten it with your fingers, take the edges and fold them in until you form a ball.
- Flatten the ball again, add in cubes of your favorite cheese to the middle.
- Seal the ball of dough by gathering the edges towards the middle and pinch tightly closed.
- Flip seam side down and place in greased pan or dish about 1/2 inch apart.
- Rest for at least 1 hour or overnight in the fridge before baking.
- If resting overnight, place on counter 2 hours prior to baking to bring the dough back to room temperature.
- Before baking, brush buns with egg wash.
- Bake on 350 for 20 minutes
- Melt butter, garlic, salt, and parsley in a small saucepan over low heat until combined.
- Brush baked buns with melted garlic butter after removing from oven. Serve warm
Save Time Hosting with Overnight Dinner Rolls
This overnight bun recipe is actually my best dinner party hosting tip. I get all the prep work done the day before, and it’s ready to bake the next day. This saves me so much time the day of my event, so I don’t have to worry about also making dough from scratch. All I have to do is a quick egg wash, bake, and finish with garlic butter.
If you are resting overnight, make sure to leave the buns out 2 hours before baking to let it warm up back to room temperature. If you just want to bake them the same day you make them, you’ll just have to let them rise for an hour and they’re ready to go in the oven!

Hi Tiffy, can you omit the cheesy centre and just have them as regular garlic bread rolls? (My daughter is lactos-intolerant so can’t have the cheese but would still love to make these rolls for Christmas dinner!)
Hi Celina! Yes, you can omit the cheese. The baking will be easier, but baking time may decrease by a little. I’d check it starting at about 17 minutes in while it is baking in the oven!
Tiffy
Is it possible that I am blind or did you forget to add the water in the recipe? I’ve been making bread long enough. I understand that I had to add it, but I thought maybe for other folks hehe then again it’s entirely possible I missed it!
