Stir Fried Taiwanese Cabbage: A Classic Dinner Dish

Cooking doesn’t have to involve a lot of planning on ingredients. Most of the time, I make dinner based on what’s left in the fridge. Today was a hectic day, because Dom got all his wisdom teeth removed and we had a family emergency. So for today, Dom needed food that was easy to chew, and I needed something that was simple and stress-free to make.

For our dinner for two, I made this stir fried Taiwanese cabbage with some leftover bacon from yesterday. I also made pork and chicken feet soup and a steamed egg. It’s a super cozy dinner that reminds me of home-cooked dinner with my parents.

Add Broth For Flavorful Stir Fried Taiwanese Cabbage

Adding a ladleful, or about 1/2 cup of broth into your veggies while cooking make them instantly so much more flavorful! Since I was making the pork and chicken feet soup at the same time for this meal, I decided to add a ladleful of this soup to give it some of its rich flavor. The broth gives the pan more moisture as well, allowing the cabbage to cook faster and more evenly.

Stir Fried Taiwanese Cabbage Ingredients

  • 2-3 strips of bacon
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 300 grams of cabbage
  • 1/2 cup of chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste (optional)

How To Make Stir Fried Taiwanese Cabbage

  1. In a hot pan, start stir frying the chopped bacon for 2-3 minutes, or until the oil starts to release.
  2. Add in sliced garlic and stir fry for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Once you can smell the garlic, add cabbage and stir fry for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add broth, and stir fry for another 3-4 minutes until cabbage is cooked.

An interesting combination. I haven’t tried pairing cabbage and bacon in this way before. I need to give it a try because it looks appetizing, especially since I’ve been looking for some interesting appetizers for a family gathering recently.
