Who’s ready for some finger-licking good Honey Garlic Chicken Wings?
Chicken is fried till crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and coated with the perfect sweet and garlic glaze; this Honey Garlic Chicken Wings is a MUST-TRY dish.
I have both deep-fried and air-fried versions on this blog post, and this chicken wing recipe is also gluten-free!
Nothing is better than Honey Garlic Chicken Wings for any social gatherings.
Easy, affordable, and made with accessible ingredients that you can find at your local supermarket.
If you are making the recipe in bulk, you can also marinate the meat overnight to make it extra juicy and flavourful.
All you need to make the perfect sticky Honey Garlic Chicken Wings glaze is honey, garlic, butter, and the secret ingredient, a little bit of soy sauce.
The soy sauce adds umami flavourful to the dish and helps balance out the sweetness from the honey. You can use gluten-free soy sauce if you have gluten sensitivity, as the rest of the dish is gluten-free.
My Honey Garlic Chicken Wings will BLOW YOUR MIND.
The crispy fried chicken on its own is already impressive but topped with a sticky glaze; these chicken wings are on a whole other level. Here are a few tips that I swear by when it comes to making Fried Chicken:
- Marinate the Chicken: I always marinate the chicken before frying it, and it helps tenderize the chicken and keeps the chicken meat juicy and flavourful.
- Make a Batter: A light batter will help the coating stick, making it extra crispy.
- Let it Rest: this is a SUPER crucial step; let the chicken rest for 5 minutes after coating it with Tapioca Starch; this will help the starch stick to the skin and not fall while frying.
For this recipe, you can deep-fry or air-fry the Honey Garlic Chicken Wings.
If I prepare the chicken wings for a social gathering or to make for bulk, I always deep fry as it saves me time,
I can deep-fry more wings at a time, and of course, deep frying will always be more delicious compared to air frying.
However, if you are making a smaller quantity for a weeknight dinner, the air-fried version is also super crispy, but it does take double the time.
DEEP-FRIED HONEY GARLIC CHICKEN WINGS:
- Add in corn starch, egg, and ice-cold soda water to the marinated chicken wings. Mix and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Coat the chicken in tapioca starch, and let it rest for another 5 minutes.
- In a pan, add oil to fry. Once the oil is hot, add in the chicken wings and fry for 4-5 minutes or until the chicken is golden brown and crispy.
- OPTIONAL: turn the heat up to high, and double fry for another 1 minute to make it extra crispy!
AIR FRIED HONEY GARLIC CHICKEN WINGS:
- Add in corn starch, egg, and ice-cold soda water to the marinated chicken wings. Mix and let it rest for *20 minutes*
- Coat the chicken in tapioca starch, and let it rest for another 5 minutes.
- Preheat the air-fryer to 350F for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, spray the air fryer to prevent the chicken from sticking, and add in the chicken.
- Spray some oil on top of the chicken (optional), and fry at 350F for 15 minutes.
**Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to do this in batches. Leave some space in between the chicken so it can be crispy up easier. **
- After 12 minutes, toss the chicken around, spray a little more oil (optional) and bring the temperature up to 400F to fry for another 12-15 minutes. Every air fryer is slightly different, so keep an eye out to prevent it from burning.
