Homemade Matcha Cold Foam for Coffee and Tea
Your morning coffees are going to be much more fun topped with this Homemade Matcha Cold Foam. Inspired by the Japanese matcha cafes we visited in Asakusa, this matcha cold foam is perfect for adding just a touch of creaminess to your favorite drink. If you love crema or cheese foam from boba shops, you’ll love this creamy addition. It’s my favorite way to make my morning matcha latte feel a little bit more like Starbucks at home.

Making Matcha Lattes For My Home Cafe
I had a mini home cafe event for 22 of my closest family and friends, and I made everything from drinks to desserts. With 12 simple but easy to prep recipes, like Cinnamon Buns and Matcha Shortbread Cookies with my mom, I turned my house into a cafe in just one week.
This Matcha Cold Foam was amazing on top of my matcha oat milk lattes! The light foam adds an extra rich texture to these earthy lattes. It was also incredibly easy to make a large batch at once using my trusty handheld milk frother, so serving 22 was a breeze!
Matcha Cold Cream Ingredients
- ¼ Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1 Tsp Sugar
- ¼ Cup Milk
- 1 Tsp Matcha Powder sifted

What Matcha I Use For Matcha Cold Foam
My go-to matcha brand is Ippodo Tea. Its smooth, umami-sweetness ends with a note of bitter, but it’s not grassy at all. I invested in this High quality ceremonial grade matcha tea because it’s creamier, nutrient-rich, and has a beautiful vibrant green colour. It really does make a huge difference! It tastes much better than in cafes, and you can make it however you like.

Variations On Cold Foam Flavors
You can use this cold foam recipe as a base recipe to make a ton of other different flavors of cold foam. You can switch the milk to your favorite type, whether it’s oat milk, almond, or soy. Or, switch out the matcha, and be as creative with the cream flavor. Here are a few flavor combinations you can add for some unique flavors:
- Sea Salt and Vanilla
- Pumpkin Spice: Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Cloves, Allspice
- Cocoa and Peppermint
This cold foam can keep in the fridge for up to 1-2 days in an airtight container, but make sure to enjoy it It’s easy to make a large batch at once, but I’d recommend making small batches every time for the freshest flavor.

Drinks You Can Make with Matcha Cold Foam
My favorite way to enjoy this matcha cold foam is of course, on top of matcha latte. You can also add this whipped topping on top of a glass of iced coffee, tea, or even just milk for an extra hint of creamy matcha flavor.
Or, you can make a TikTok viral Coconut Matcha Cloud. This refreshing drink is made of coconut water topped with this matcha cold foam. It only takes a few ingredients, but seems like a really fancy drink.
