Healthy and Refreshing Matcha Lemon Tonic

Matcha Lemon Tonic is so refreshing, and such a great way to rehydrate first thing in the day – or anytime. If you’ve never had a matcha tonic, it tastes just like a slightly-bitter sparkling lemon tea, with umami-packed matcha and tonic. On days where I want to start lighter, I choose this homemade matcha soda – it wakes me up and keeps me refreshed.

Matcha is very high in antioxidants, and lemon is high in vitamin C. With this easy natural drink, you’re starting the day off with all the nutrients you need for a bright complexion. It’s like drinking your skincare!

Matcha Tonic: A Refreshing Soda for 22 Guests

This month I planned a home cafe event for 22 of my favorite people in the world, with recipe such as cinnamon rolls, Japanese Tamago Sando, and this yummy lemon drink. It’s a week of planning, testing, and preparing – but it’s such a rewarding way to show everyone appreciating with my favorite love language. The best part was getting to spend that week with my mom just baking!

I’m usually a matcha latte person, but I’ve been obsessed with this Lemon Matcha Tonic recipe ever since my home cafe event. It’s now my new morning drink for the next week!

My Favorite Matcha Powder: Ippodo Tea

Ippodo Tea is my go-to matcha brand. It has a smooth sweetness and umami accompanied by a hint of bitterness. It’s just enough richness for matcha fans, and super approachable for beginners.

High quality ceremonial grade matcha tea is an investment, but it makes a huge difference! Itโ€™s creamier, nutrient-rich, and has a beautiful vibrant green colour. Best of all, its NOT GRASSY!

Preparing Your Matcha

In the morning, I get my At Home Matcha Set, and heat up some hot water while I start my day. Before starting, make sure to soak your bamboo whisk in hot water to make it more flexible.

There’s something about whisking the perfect matcha consistency that really gets me zoned in and focused. Put some sifted tea and hot water in your bowl and whisk in a M or Z pattern. Once it’s a foamy and frothy, it’s ready to go! It usually takes about 45 seconds.

So Many Different Matcha Tonic Flavors

For my home cafe event, I made 2 variations: Matcha Yuzu Tonic and Yuzu Lemon Tonic. There’s so few ingredients needed for this fruit tea, it’s easy to make new flavors.

Using either another syrup or muddled fresh fruit, instead of the lemon syrup, is an easy way to change up this tasty drink. My favorites are citrus flavors like grapefruit syrup and yuzu, which makes it instantly so refreshing. Other ones you can try include strawberry, blueberry, or ginger.

Healthy Tea Drink To Simple Matcha Cocktail

This healthy Matcha Tonic isn’t just a morning wellness drink. The matcha and tonic together gives this drink a clean matcha flavor that reminds me of the matcha beer we had in Asakusa. With a little gin, this Matcha Lemon Tonic mocktail becomes a cocktail! This might be the healthiest Matcha Lemon Gin and Tonic ever! If you’re looking for new creative alcoholic drinks for your home bar, this recipe is a great place for you to start serving matcha cocktails.
