My New Morning Matcha Routine

I recently started a new morning matcha routine to help me start the day more consciously. Having this new routine gets me so excited to get up in the morning! It’s not only a mindful practice, it’s also absolutely delicious. Getting up and making myself a matcha latte helps me slow down my morning and plan ahead better.

At Home Matcha Set

This is the at-home matcha set I use every day. This set comes with a whisk with holder, a scoop with a ceramic stand, a bowl, tea cloth, and a sifter. It also comes in a ton of colors, so you can choose your favorite!

My Favorite Matcha Powder: Ippodo Tea

High quality ceremonial grade matcha tea is an investment, but I’m really finding that it makes a huge difference! Itโ€™s creamier, nutrient-rich, and has a beautiful vibrant green colour. Best of all, its NOT GRASSY! If you compare it to cafe matcha latte prices, itโ€™s definitely worth it long term. I swear it tastes better than store bought AND you can customize it to your own liking (sweetness, ice, milk, etc).

Ippodo Tea is my go-to matcha brand. It has a smooth sweetness and umami accompanied by a hint of bitterness. It’s just enough richness for matcha fans, and super approachable for beginners.

Preparing Your Matcha

Preparing matcha feels both functional and spiritual. In the morning, I get my matcha kit set up, and heat up some hot water while I start my day. Before starting, make sure to soak your bamboo whisk in hot water to make it more flexible.

There’s something about whisking the perfect matcha consistency that really gets me zoned in and focused. Put some sifted tea and hot water in your bowl and whisk in a M or Z pattern. Once it’s a foamy and frothy, it’s ready to go! It usually takes about 45 seconds.

Making An Oatmilk Matcha Latte

To make your matcha into latte, all you have to do is pour it over milk. It’s so easy, I do it every morning. My favorite type of milk to use is the Oatly Oat Milk. It gives my matcha latte a creamier and richer flavor that balances the natural bitterness of the matcha well.

You can use any type of milk you’d like for a matcha latte. Whole milk, almond milk, and non-fat milk are all great options to make this into the perfect latte you’d love to have every morning. If you like it sweeter, I sometimes whisk in sugar, simple syrup, or other sweeteners into my milk before adding matcha.

The Best Add-Ins for Matcha Latte

Your matcha latte can be a little LOT more fun with a little bit extra. Sometimes, a little topping or syrup goes a long way. If I’m feeling like I need a reminder of boba milk tea from Taiwan, adding some brown sugar boba into your matcha latte is always the way to go. For a more cafe style drink, I love adding some homemade vanilla cold foam on top to make this latte fancier. For adventurous matcha drinkers, try the delicious strawberry matcha latte!
