Newton Hawker Center Food Haul for 4 People

Here’s everything we ate at Newton Hawker Center for a filling meal for a group of 4! When in Singapore, you already know the first stop has to be a Hawker Center. We got to taste test some foods that were a first, even for me, like BBQ Sambal Stingray! Check out every street food we got to try in one of Singapore’s most famous hawker center!

Newton Hawker Center

Today we’re at the iconic Newton Hawker Center! It is our friend’s first time here in Singapore, so of course we had to order a little bit of everything for her to try. There’s just nothing better than wandering around random stalls, ordering way too much food, and sitting down together to finally catch up.

This is honestly what I love the most about hawker centers in Singapore. They bring people together. No fancy reservations needed, just good food and good company. I truly don’t think there’s a better way to spend the first night back in one of my favorite cities ever. We finished EVERYTHING, from BBQ Stingrays for the first time to fluffy prata!

Ice Cold Lime Juice

Singapore can get so hot, especially when we’re sitting in outdoor seating. The best way to cool down? Ice cold Lime Juice, a must order in Singapore. It says “lime juice”, but it’s actually more specifically calamansi juice. This tart-sour juice are perfect for cutting down the richness and spice of some of these BBQ foods and the heat outside. It is an absolutely must have, and we immediately got one for each of us!

BBQ Chicken Wings (8.5/10)

One of the must-haves here at Newton Hawker Center are these Michelin-recommended BBQ Chicken Wings from R&B Express. These smoky wings are charcoal grilled on a rotisserie setup that makes sure every single wing gets that even, golden brown color. The wings are marinated in a sauce that has a tangy, spicy kick. At S$1.40 per wing, these were so addicting that I get them every single time I’m here.

Satay Skewers

Another amazing item from R&B Express are their satay skewers, with a mix of either chicken, beef, or mutton. At about $1 per stick, each order is charcoal grilled to perfection. They’re served with peanut sauce and chili dip, as well as packets of rice. These satay skewers definitely kept us reaching for more! For about 4 people, we ordered about 20 skewers to share.

BBQ Sambal Stingray (7/10)

Here at Alliance Grilled Seafood, I tried a stingray for the first time. They serve a variety of different seafood dishes, including Chili Crab and BBQ Sambal Stingray. Ranging from S$14-22 depending on size, the stingray slice is covered in super spicy sambal. Then, it’s grilled over charcoal.

After trying stingray, I realize it does taste like the exact mix of chicken and fish! But this was so spicy, so definitely ask for less sambal if you’re not a spicy person!

Flaky Prata

Prata is a flaky, crispy, and buttery flatbread served hot with curry. You can also customize with tasty fillings like veggies, meat, and cheese. My absolute favorites are the onion ones, which are super flavorful inside. There are multiple spots where you can get prata here at Newton Hawker Center. So, don’t miss out on this yummy treat!

White & Black Carrot Cakes

Of course, we had to get the famous Heng Carrot Cake. Famous for their white and black versions of fried carrot cake (chai tow kway) or radish cakes. These were my personal favorites of this meal. The white radish cakes tend to be more egg heavy, while the darker version has a sweet caramelized soy sauce flavor. They’re about S$4-5 for a small plate, S$6 for medium, but you an ask for half-half of each flavor.
