Salmon Sashimi with Wasabi Yuzu Dressing

I made this Wasabi Avocado Salmon Sashimi dish as one of 3 side dishes for my Miso-Marinated Salmon Brunch. You might ask, “two salmon dishes in one meal?” Yes, because this Salmon Poke actually feels like a refreshing palette cleanser after a bite of the rich Air Fried Salmon. This brunch, combined with the other sides, like Miso Yuzu Asparagus and Yuzu Sesame Tomato Salad, is how I get all the proteins, fibers, and other nutrient I need in one meal!

It takes 5 minutes to make this high protein avocado salmon that I can enjoy literally any time of the day. It can be a cold side dish, or enjoyed as a topping for a poke bowl as well. The salmon and avocado are incredibly creamy, but the yuzu cuts right through and makes it so refreshing. The wasabi also adds such a nice kick to it!

Salmon Wasabi Ingredients

Sashimi-Grade Salmon

Salmon supports your heart, brain, skin, and immune system with a super high amount of omega-3, vitamin B12, and vitamin D per standard serving. Enjoying your salmon raw actually retains more of these nutrients, and is tasty as well! It is deliciously silky and buttery, and melts right in your mouth.

For this recipe, always use sashimi-grade fish. This means that the fish has been flash-frozen at a super low temperature to kill parasites while maintaining texture. Of course, you can also use other sashimi grade fish for this recipe, like tuna, snapper, hamachi, and more.

Cutting sashimi-grade salmon for

Avocado

Today we’re pairing the salmon with another creamy superfood: avocados. They are rich in healthy fats for heart health and are also high in fiber and great for digestion! Fun fact, avocado actually contains more potassium than bananas. It’s a great for supporting muscle function and hydration, especially for someone training for their first full marathon like me!

Cutting avocados is one of the easiest way for people to hurt their hands! Here’s how to do it safely, without smushing the fruit. First, place the avocado flat on the board, slice it in half lengthwise, and twist it open. To remove the pit, keep the half on the board and tap your knife into the seed, then twist your knife to take it out. Then, peel off the skin before slicing.

Wasabi Yuzu Dressing

This Avocado Salmon dish is seasoned with a sharp, but savory Wasabi Yuzu Dressing. This sauce is made with chopped onion, wasabi, black pepper, yuzu sesame dressing, and roasted sesame seeds. Don’t underestimate this sauce, because it does come with a bit of a bite from both wasabi and raw onions. But the heat is mellowed out by the savory-tart kai dong Yuzu Sesame Dressing, which honestly goes with everything, and that buttery salmon and creamy avocado in every bite. The spicy, citrusy sauce mix really reminds me of poke in Hawaii and that yuzu-gomae dressing that is common in Japan.

How To Make Wasabi Avocado Salmon

  1. In a bowl, mix together finally chopped onion, wasabi, black pepper, yuzu sesame dressing, and roasted sesame seed.
  2. Then, gently fold in salmon sashimi, and chopped avocados.
  3. Toss everything together.

Worked really well! I even added more Wasabi!!!! I did not have the dressing so I made my own using sesame oil, a bit of maple syrup, lime juice, soya sauce and a tiny bid of balsamic vinegar.
