It’s Too Hot Not To Have Korean Watermelon Punch

This week is supposed to be the hottest week this summer! To beat the heat, I’ve eaten cold noodles every single day – from sesame chicken cold noodles to korean spicy cold noodles!

It’s been so hot, and I keep seeing Hwachae going viral on my TikTok for you page. Hwachae is a Korean watermelon fruit punch made with strawberry milk and a lemon-lime soda. The strawberry milk gives it a creamy flavor, and the Sprite adds a nice fizz that makes the hwachae so fun to drink. If you can’t find strawberry milk, you can definitely make your own FRESH Strawberry Milk with my recipe!

Add All Your Favorite Fruits and Toppings To Hwachae

Hwachae is most commonly made with watermelon, but you can add any other fruit alongside it. Today we’re adding blueberries, dragon fruit, blackberries, and strawberries. With all the different types of fruits, no wonder this Korean dessert is so hydrating.

I also see a lot of people adding toppings like boba and pudding to their Hwachae. Today I added a bunch of fruity coconut jelly cups. These are usually available at every Asian market, but you can really use anything you’d like. It gives an extra bouncy texture between the tender berries and crunchy watermelon. If you’ve got extra time, you can even use some homemade fruit jelly to add in!

Hwachae Ingredients

  • 2 cups Watermelon, cubed
  • 1 dragonfruit, cubed
  • 1 carton blueberries
  • 1.5 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 carton blackberries

  1. If you have family who are allergic to strawberries like mine, what other fruit would you add instead of strawberries? I figured I could use regular milk, as well.

    1. Hi Stephanie, you can try peaches, apricots, apples, or other berries. You can also definitely use regular milk for this dessert!
