What is a night market series without the famous Taiwanese XXL Fried Chicken!?
Taiwanese XXL Fried Chicken is juicy, tender, flavourful, and super crispy! I remember walking around Taiwan’s night market every summer, holding an XXL Fried Chicken in one hand, and Bubble Tea in the other hand.
You NEED to give this recipe a try! Your house will be smelling AMAZING, and I promise all your guests will LOVE this Taiwanese XXL Fried Chicken.
Whenever you go to the night market in Taiwan, you will for sure see Taiwanese XXL Fried Chicken.
Over the years, it has become one of the most famous Taiwanese street food that tourists LOVE. If you ever get a chance to visit Taiwan, I highly recommend trying XXL Fried Chicken at the night market, but until then, don’t worry, I got you with my copycat recipe that will bring Taiwan to you!
The key to an excellent Taiwanese XXL Fried Chicken is when the meat is tender, the batter isn’t too thick, and the meat is super flavourful.
I am using chicken breast today, but you can also you chicken thighs as well.
For this recipe, chicken breast is the juiciest option, and fries more evenly. I first butterfly the chicken breast, and using the back of the knife; I tenderize the meat. Make sure not to make it too thin, as you don’t want the chicken to break.
I use garlic, five-spice powder, soy sauce, and Chinese cooking wine to flavor the chicken. Let the chicken marinate for at least 20 minutes, so the chicken is extra juicy and savory.
If you want to make your Taiwanese XXL Fried Chicken spicy, you got to try the seasoning powder.
I am using a mixture of chili powder, paprika, five-spice powder, white pepper, garlic powder, and salt. Depending on how spicy, salty, and garlic you want, you can adjust these seasonings to your liking.
