Watermelon Limeade: Cocktail or Probiotic Drink

Summer is approaching faster than you think, and I’m already seeing watermelons at the supermarket. In preparation of warmer weather, I’m making an easy watermelon drink. Made with super simple ingredients, you can quickly make the boba-shop style drink at home. This watermelon Limeade can easily be a fun summer cocktail as well, just add your favorite alcohol!

Ingredients For Watermelon Yakult Limeade

  • 2-3 Lemon slices
  • 2-3 Lime slices
  • 1 cup of fresh watermelon, cubed
  • 1 bottle Yakult
  • Sparkling Water or Sprite
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: A mint sprig for garnish

Watermelon

Watermelon is the star of this drink, and for good reason! This juicy, vibrant fruit is not only refreshing but also packed with health benefits. Watermelon is made up of about 92% water, making it one of the most hydrating fruits you can eat! It’s also packed with vitamins A and C, which are great for skin health. It’s the perfect snack or ingredient to keep you hydrated during scorching summer days.

The muddled watermelon in this drink gives it that gentle sweetness with no sugar added at all. To pick a great watermelon for your drink, pick a heavy watermelon with deep color contrast that gives a nice bouncy sound when tapped, like a water ballon.

Lemon and Lime

I love throwing in a slice of lemon and lime into my drinks, because it adds just a touch of tartness to everything. They’re also pretty healthy! Lemons and limes are great sources of vitamin C, keeping your skin clear and your gut healthy.

I muddled up the citrus first, because it helps the lemon and lime slices release all the juices and flavors. You get the sourness and that slightly complex bitterness from the rind and the pulpy goodness.

Yakult Probiotic Drink

Yakult is a super popular drink in Asia that is actually part of a lot of school lunches or snacks thanks to its healthy benefits. This milky, slightly tart yogurt drink tastes almost like candy – but packs in a ton of beneficial gut-healthy Lactobacillus bacteria. Because it’s so tasty, you can actually find Yakult added to boba teas in Taiwan, just like my Orange Yakult Green Tea recipe. But, Yakult isn’t just for kids, because it is tasty in fruit juices, teas, or even in cocktails.

How To Make Watermelon Yakult Limeade

  1. Half-fill a container with ice cubes and a few slices of lemon and lime. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to press the ingredients together.
  2. Add fresh watermelon and continue to muddle.
  3. Add 1 bottle of Yakult and a bit more ice. Shake or mix it well.
  4. Top it off with sparkling water or Sprite.
  5. Stir gently to mix, garnish with a mint sprig or a slice of lime.
