My Singapore Foodie Adventure Day Itinerary
Come with me and the Singapore Tourism Board on a full day of Singapore foodie adventures! We are on a tour to learn about some of the best must-try of Singapore’s foodie scene. Today, we’re doing everything from learning how to make steamed dumplings in a traditional piranakan home to cafe hopping across the city. Here are some of the local’s recommended foodie spots around Singapore!

Foodie Tour with The Singapore Tourism Board
Today is officially day one of our Singapore foodie brand trip. No matter how many times I’ve been on brand trip, I still get so nervous and excited to meet everyone. This was actually my second time visiting Singapore with Singapore Tourism Board. There’s something so special about a tour around local hidden gems and meeting a group of passionate food lovers. This was actually my first ever dedicated foodie brand trip. Wow, it felt so heartwarming to connect with others who see food the same way I do.
It is astounding how quickly food brings a group of strangers together. We always joke that these trips feel like a school field trip. At first, everyone’s a little bit shy, but as the day go on, you start laughing, share your stories, and suddenly feels like you’ve known each other forever. As joy, love, and culture all in one bite. Every stop of this Singapore Foodie Adventure gave us a deeper glimpse of Singapore’s vibrant food scene!
Tekka Hawker Center
Little India was a neighborhood that I didn’t get a chance to bring Dom last time we’re here in Singapore, but one I instantly fell in love with. The moment you step in, it feels like you’ve been transported to somewhere completely different. The air is filled with the aroma of spices, vibrant flower glands hang from every stall, and streets are just buzzing with life. It is colorful, chaotic in the best way possible, and so full of heart and culture.

Of course, we had to kick off our foodie adventure at Tekka Center, one of the best hawker centers to dive into Indian food. The best part about eating in a hawker Center is that you can try a little bit of everything. So, we started with a massive thosai with chutney and dahl from Neha Tiffin Center and a few orders of prata with fish curry and sambal from Jom Makan: Prata Saga Sambal Berlada

For the next round, we got the iconic Prawn Noodles from Whampoa Prawn Noodles that completely blew my mind. Honestly, it was so delicious. Not going to lie, even the iced kopi that we grabbed on the side woke me right up. It was strong, creamy, and just the perfect way to start the morning. We also got to try Min Jiang Kueh, a fluffy traditional sweet pancake.

Tekka Center is also a great spot for shopping souvenirs! There’s tons of spices, dried goods, and more unique South and South East Asian flavors here. We got the Singaporean Curry Spice Mix here for our Singaporean Chicken Curry recipe back home.

Even though it was our very first meal together as a group, there’s something about family style dining in Tekka Center that just instantly brings everyone closer together. If this is a glimpse of what the rest of the trip is going to look like, I think we’re off to a very delicious start.

Warong Nasi Pariman
The coolest part about traveling with locals is discovering those hidden hole in the wall spots that you would never find on your own, and Warong Nasi Pariman was exactly that. This little shop serves authentic nasi padang since 1948, and they actually are the oldest surviving stall in Singapore.

If you never tried nasi padang before, it is an Indonesian meal from Padang. The best way to describe it is a mini feast on a plate. It starts with fluffy steamed rice paired with a variety of over 20 flavorful side dishes to choose from like nankang curries, classic beef rendang, vegetables, and more.

What really stood out to me was their smoky sambal, which is still simmered with a charcoal technique passed down for generations. The flavor was unreal: not just spicy, but smoky savory. I could not stop pairing this with everything. This is probably, hands down the best sambal, I’ve ever had in my life. Even the lime juice here was to die for. If you’re looking for comforting, hearty, and bold lunch in Singapore, this spot is an absolute must try.

Birds of Paradise
If there’s one place you’re going to see over and over again while I’m in Singapore, it is Birds of Paradise. This gelato shop is Singapore’s only ice cream shop recognized by the Michelin Guide. They’re known for the botanical inspired flavors. Think fresh, light, and beautifully balanced, creating flavors that taste elegant, refreshing, and so unique. Honestly, this might be a bold statement, but I think this is my favorite ice cream shop in the world.

My go-to is always their White Chrysanthemum, with cacao nibs with that perfect crunch. Dom swears by their Lychee Raspberry, a fruity floral flavor with just the right amount of sweetness. Please, please, please don’t skip on their house-made thyme waffle cones. The subtle herbal aroma with the gelato in every bite is a magically unique experience. If you’re in Singapore, please visit this gelato shop at least once!

Traditional Rice Cake Making lesson
For our next activity, we headed to Kim Choo Kueh Chang, a traditional treats shop located inside beautiful Peranakan shophouses that’s been around for three generations. This is a store specializing in Peranakan sticky rice treats like Nonya kueh (similar to mochi) and chang (zong zi) since 1945, and also offer workshops for traditional crafts like cooking and beading.

Last time I was here, we learned how to make odeh-odeh! This time, we’re learning about the iconic Nonya Kueh Chang, a dumpling passed down through Peranakan heritage. We learned how to layer different leaves to fold the outer layers, then filling it in with sticky rice and sweet-savory meat filling, and finally tying it all together into a tight bundle. It was such a cool experience! I can’t wait to try all the other flavors next time.

After our workshop, it was time for a quick snack of Kueh Chang, mini pineapple tart, and the super fun Kueh Lapis, a traditional, colorful, multi-layered, peelable sticky rice cake.
If you have the chance to pick up some delicious Nonya treats from Kim Choo Kueh Chang, or even some time during your trip to take one of their workshops, I’d highly recommend it! It’s a super fun way to learn more about the local community and its history.

Cata Coffee
After our hands-on lesson, we headed to Cata Coffee for some caffeine. Opened by a husband-and-wife duo in 2016, this coffee shop focuses on “farm-to-cup” concept, working with local small farmers and businesses.

I grabbed my usual matcha latte, while Dom got an iced Americano to get some energy before our next activity: a sidecar tour around town! This little coffee shop looks so much like a beautiful book store! I swear Singapore cafe scenes deserve their own video because it was non-stop inspiration.

Hua Yu Wee Chili Crab (8/10)
For dinner, we were absolutely starving. When they told us we were having Hua Yu Wee’s Chili Crab, you already know that we were ready to dig in. This is one of Singapore’s most iconic old school seafood restaurants. It’s the kind of place where locals have been going for generations. The restaurant itself feels so nostalgic, from the decor to its menu.

We order a full feast to share, family-style, with everything from Sambal Kangkon (Water spinach) to Coffee Pork Ribs that legit smelled like coffee. The olive fried rice was perfectly wok-fried, fragrant and packed with that signature Singapore wok-hey. That smoky flavor that makes every bite so addictive. Every single dish we ordered was so delicious, like the crispy Cereal Shrimp. But, my favorite was easily the Feng Sha Chicken (風沙雞). It was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and came with that tangy savory sauce that tied everything together.

Of course, the start of nights were the crabs: chili crab and the black pepper crab. The famous chili crabs are coated in that rich, tangy, slightly spicy sauce. Of course, we had to soak up all the sauces with golden fried mantou buns. The black pepper crab was also delicious: bold, fragrant, and bursting with flavor. We all got to work cracking claws, dipping buns, and chatting the night away.

We ended our feast with a warm dessert of Yam paste with ginko nuts (S$4.91/per person). It was one of those messy, joy-filled dinners with everyone reaching across the table. Honestly, if a family-style Singaporean seafood feast isn’t the best way to kick off the first official night here in Singapore, I don’t know what else is!

Organizing the food stops into a day itinerary is helpful because it accounts for location and appetite rather than treating every recommendation as a separate trip. The mix of hawker dishes and different neighborhoods also shows how much variety can fit into one day.
