Asparagus Beef: A Classic Chinese Takeout Dish
Asparagus Beef is a Chinese takeout classic, This combination of savory steak cubes and sweet asparagus is a rice killer for sure. Even with just the sauce, I can easily finish a bowl of rice.
Today, we’re making it better: we’re making a MORE tender, MUCH juicier Asparagus Beef! Today, I used steak as the beef in this dish, since making it at home means you can choose better cuts. Plus, we’re prepping our steak by slicing it in cubes, and marinating.
Tips For Preparing Better Than Takeout Beef
Restaurants often use cheaper cuts of steaks for their stir fry Asparagus Beef, and cutting in cubes makes a less chewy bite. I recommend a cut with more marbling and fat: tenderloin, sirloin, New York, or rib-eye. Depending on how well done you prefer your beef, you can adjust the cooking time.
To get tender, flavorful beef in their stir-fry, my friend who worked at a Chinese restaurant actually has a great tip: marinating the steak with some baking soda. It’s honestly a game-changer!

Tastes like the teriyaki beef you get in Taiwan!
Very Delicious!
Very good and quick to prepare!
Excellent!!!! So easy to make!!
Pretty easy to make! I even added some diced bell pepper and baby Bella mushrooms, so delicious! My daughter couldn’t stop eating the beef when usually it takes a lot to get her to eat her proteins! Hope it’s healthy bc this is going into the rotation. Thank you!
I doubled the recipe and maybe I messed it up. The flavor was nice! But I’m a texture person and the sauce got so unappealingly slimy and thick. Because there was no offense to the taste I just removed everything from the sauce.
I was following the instructions and no where did it say to remove the beef from the pan. My beef was a bit over cooked, but this recipe was very tasty.
